An Amsterdam city pass does not automatically include the regional journey, and a shuttle package may not allow a Leiden stopover. Choose a departure that fits both the actual garden opening and your other commitments. The garden says before 10:30 or after 16:00 and Monday to Wednesday are generally quieter. Commercial fields may look spectacular when a variety is in full bloom, but the crop is grown for bulbs. Do not rely on being able to buy a desired entry time at the gate.

Check the forecast and dress for wind and rain on exposed paths. Photography is possible in different light, but choose a route suitable for the conditions and keep away from traffic when stopping.
