Anne Frank House is a separate historical visit, not an art museum. Its tickets are sold only through the official house channel, with timed entry and no door sales. A city walk about Anne Frank does not include house admission. Check the official release schedule before fixing that part of your trip.

In Brussels, the Magritte Museum at Place Royale and the Old Masters Museum have individual or combined admission. The Royal Museums' Modern and Fin-de-Siècle departments are currently closed; do not plan a visit to their former displays from an old guide. The Wiertz Museum is also closed. How Easy Is Each City To Get Around?

Both cities support walking and public transport. Amsterdam's canal districts can be explored on foot, but destinations and access needs extend beyond a small central circuit. Brussels also has walkable central routes, with metro, tram or bus useful for more distant addresses.

GVB's 2026 adult 24-hour ticket is €10; the child 24-hour ticket is €5 for ages 4–11, and under-4s travel free. A valid GVB day ticket covers its night buses, but the €3.40 one-hour ticket does not. The separate night-bus ticket is €5.70 for 90 minutes. Contactless OVpay is another way to pay; the €10.50 GVB Max cap applies to eligible journeys, with night buses outside that cap. This is not nearly free travel or a pass for NS and other operators.

The IJ ferries are free and need no paid ticket or OVpay tap. Choose the correct crossing for your destination: Buiksloterweg serves the Eye/Lookout area, while NDSM uses a different ferry route. Compare existing City Card coverage before buying a separate GVB ticket.

Brussels STIB currently charges €2.40 for an eligible contactless bank-card journey, capped at €8.50 per day. These STIB conditions do not turn your bank card into a universal rail or airport pass. Brussels Airport's station is below the terminal at level −1, with the airport advertising about 18 minutes to Brussels-Central on the relevant service. Its rail surcharge is often included in the quoted ticket, so do not add it twice. Allow for luggage, local station journeys and your own walking needs in either city. International Brussels trains commonly use Midi/Zuid, which is different from Brussels-Central. A train's station-to-station time is not the complete journey to your room.

How Long Should You Spend In Each City?

Three or four full Amsterdam days and two or three Brussels days can make a useful introduction, but these are planning suggestions. A collection-focused Brussels visit or a slower Amsterdam trip may need longer. Count arrival, departure and travel time before filling every day.

In Amsterdam, choose the museums you actually want rather than assigning half a day to each famous name automatically. Allow time for Museumplein, a neighbourhood walk, a market or a canal outing. For spring 2027, Keukenhof's garden season is 18 March–9 May, normally 08:00–19:00. Flowering depends on conditions. Can You Combine Amsterdam And Brussels In One Trip?

Yes. Direct trains can make Amsterdam and Brussels a practical combination, provided you use the correct stations and allow for local journeys. Eurocity Direct uses Amsterdam Zuid, while Eurostar uses Amsterdam Centraal; both serve Brussels Midi/Zuid. They have different fares, seat arrangements and conditions.

NS International advertises Eurocity Direct's fastest Amsterdam Zuid–Brussels Midi journey at about 2 hours 8 minutes. Your dated connection may differ. Eurostar is a separate reservation-based service from Centraal. Compare both directions, actual station access, ticket flexibility and luggage arrangements. A cheap lead fare is not guaranteed, and an international train time is not hotel-to-hotel travel.

Continental journeys on this corridor and Eurostar journeys involving London have different check-in and border requirements. Season can influence individual activities without dictating which city must come first. Amsterdam's 2026–27 Light Festival offers a separate winter cruise, distinct from an ordinary saloon ride.
