Are There Christmas Markets In Amsterdam?

Yes. Christmas Village at Museumplein has announced free admission from 3–27 December 2026. Other markets run on particular dates rather than across the whole month. Choose the actual event you want to visit, and distinguish a market from a separately operated ice rink.

The Christmas Village organiser confirms the Museumplein dates, including 25 and 26 December. Check its latest daily hours before setting off, especially on holidays. Shopping, food and drinks are separate purchases even though market entry is free.

The Sunday Market calendar lists Westergas on 6 and 20 December 2026 and Museum Market on 13 December. These are specific visits, not a promise of stalls every day at Westergas. Other neighbourhood events need their own current announcement.

For a guided winter orientation rather than market entry, the selected two-hour city walk includes a Melly's stroopwafel workshop, hot chocolate with cream and a winter hat. Dam Square can be a starting point for the centre, Royal Palace exterior and surrounding shopping streets, but a Christmas rink or market on Dam should not be assumed. The Nine Streets are a shopping district, with individual shop hours and purchases, not a ticketed Christmas market.

At Museumplein, combine Christmas Village with a nearby museum if both interest you. The market announcement does not establish that the separate Museumplein ice rink will operate: check the rink organiser before planning skating. The Anne Frank House sells only through its own website. Adult entry is €16.50 including the booking fee; Museumkaart holders still reserve and pay the €1 fee. December cruise departures are available, but the boat's cover, heating, toilet and route depend on the product. A dedicated Light Festival trip is different from a regular canal sightseeing cruise. You can also choose public viewing on foot rather than buying a boat ticket.

The official festival cruise shop announces sales from October 2026, while some operators already offer this winter’s dedicated packages. Public artwork viewing remains a separate free choice; ordinary sightseeing cruises do not promise the festival route.

The dedicated heated festival cruise now offers December 2026 departures. Its 75-minute shared boat has a toilet and English/Dutch audio, with boarding steps and no wheelchair access. Choose the no-drinks departure at Prinsengracht 261A or the unlimited beer, wine and soft-drinks option at Prins Hendrikkade 33A; snacks are extra. Check the actual date, package and final dock instructions before arranging onward travel.

For an ordinary canal visit, the shared saloon option lasts about one hour. The selected dock matters, drinks and cheese depend on the option, and boarding has a substantial step. There is no toilet. Check each venue for 25 and 26 December instead of assuming the city closes. Rijksmuseum remains open daily 09:00–17:00 and Christmas Village is scheduled on both days. Shops, restaurants, other museums and transport services have individual holiday arrangements.

Christmas Day and Second Christmas Day are Dutch public holidays. Plan a meal at a restaurant that has actually confirmed its menu and opening, and read any deposit or cancellation condition.
